SPOTLIGHT DETAILS

Undergraduate Spotlight Details:
For almost 60 years, AMDA College of the Performing Arts has been celebrated as one of America’s premier performing arts institutions. With campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, AMDA transforms aspiring performers into industry professionals, poised for successful careers as artists and creators. AMDA’s Dance Theatre programs are designed to train and empower versatile dancers and movement artists for careers in theatrical, commercial and concert dance performance. With our Bachelor of Fine Arts, Associate’s Degree and Conservatory Certificate in Dance Theater, students train alongside dancers from all over the world while honing their individual talents as dancers, choreographers, actors, vocalists, filmmakers, entrepreneurs, and interdisciplinary original content creators. A vast array of techniques are explored, including: contemporary, ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, heels, tap, commercial jazz, and Broadway styles. By working with some of the industry's most sought-after choreographers, students learn to blend precise technical choreography with individual interpretive storytelling, enhancing their ability to meet the demands of today's competitive industry. As a result, AMDA graduates are performing in Broadway and off-Broadway productions, dance companies, world tours, commercials, movies, television, regional theater, and everywhere their artistry may take them. Additional courses in acting, singing technique, kinetic storytelling, and original content creation help cultivate skills that allow for diverse casting and employment opportunities within the performing arts. Extensive coursework in dance for camera provides students with industry-standard reels ready for submission upon graduation. The final semester includes an industry presentation in which dancers are showcased to dance agencies, entertainment companies, and dance-industry guests. AMDA has two BFA degree programs that focus on the study of dance theater. AMDA’s BFA in Dance Theater prepares dancers for professional careers in dance performance. This program is grounded in foundational dance technique and performance skills across a broad range of styles. AMDA’s BFA in Performing Arts: Dance Theatre & Content Creation is designed for dance artists interested in pursuing a dance performance degree while also developing their own work for stage, screen and digital media platforms. Both programs are enriched by a wide range of academic studies and performance opportunities, resulting in a comprehensive and holistic performing arts education. AMDA also offers an Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degree program and a Conservatory Certificate program. An audition is required for admission. AMDA offers in-person auditions throughout the world, with options for virtual audition appointments and self-tape submissions. Please visit amda.edu for information on admissions auditions.
